700R4 Dipstick For A 73 K5
« on: May 02, 2014, 02:05:12 pm »
So the previous owner installed a 700R4 and put a chrome tranny dipstick in it. I don't trust the thing.
If I pull a dipstick out of a junkyard truck with a 700R4 will it read correctly?
I think the body measurements are fairly similar but I want to be positive it will read correctly.

it should just drop right in, measurements should be correct.  be sure to get a new o-ring gasket.  one thing you may want to check to see if it has an aftermarket deep dish pan or stock pan.

General information - A deeper pan won't make any difference to dipstick length since "Full" for a deep pan is the same fluid level, relative to filter position and the case, as "Full" for a stock pan; all 700R4 filters share the same dimension (drop) from the case.  Dipstick length is more closely related to dipstick tube length.

This is correct.

I realize that, I was going of the fact that maybe the aftermarket pan may have came with a longer dipstick as well.  but after thinking about it, that would be pretty foolish to do that.

I'm sure someone, somewhere has done it.  LOL
