Is this a temperature sensor on the drivers side head?
« on: May 05, 2014, 05:02:41 pm »
While removing my spark plug wires I tried to pull off a single wire connector to get it out of the way.  When I did, the plastic connector crubled apart leaving behind a funny looking female type connector.  It almost looks like a female spade connector.  I'm trying to locate another to replace it with.  In doing so, I'm not sure what connector this is.  It resembles a temperature sending unit but it's located down on the drivers side of the motor; between the 1st and 2nd spark plugs.

Yes, That's your temp sending unit

Cool.  Thanks.  Know where I might get a pigtail of one?  I looked at RockAuto.com, O'reilly's, and AutoZone so far.  Can't find one.

It's a regular female spade.  Get a good one.

A simple spade connector is all it really is.

What year is your truck?  Earlier ones used a different connector that could be mistaken for a spade connector, but really slid on from the side.  Does your temp sender have a spade connector on the end, or does the connector on the end look more like a brass nail head?

I took a regular spade connector, removed the plastic sleeve and used shrink tube from the end of the connector back about an inch onto the wire. The wire is basically just a ground for the gauge and the sending unit is a variable resister controlled by heat. More heat = less resistance.

You could probably use one with a plastic sleeve and just a notch in the side of the plastic to accept the connection.
