Plugs on passenger side much lighter
« on: May 12, 2014, 09:52:29 am »
hey guys the other day I noticed what almost sounds like a lifter tick. Very slight. It increases and decreases tick revolutions with rpm speed. I first went to check my plugs thinking I might have one that was slightly fouled. No plugs were fouled but it was strange that all of the plugs on the passenger side were really white and all 4 on the drivers side were pretty black rich. Whats up with that? I do know I have a slight exhaust leak at the header flange on the passenger side but would that cause this side to run lean? I am wondering if I have a vacuum leak on that side somewhere? Maybe intake? I checked all bolts and seem to be tight. Just wanted to get some opinions from the pros on what to do next. Thanks guys

Single plane or dual plane intake?

Its a Wieman stealth and I believe it dual plane. But truly I am not sure. I just looked on summit and all the Stealth intakes for Chevy small blocks are dual.

You could have an air leak on the passenger side, such as from a worn throttle plate hinge hole in the carb body, or a fuel leak on the driver side, such as a leaking casting plug in the base of the carb (assuming Qjet).  Sounds more like a fuel leak on the driver side to me.

Spray some WD-40 or starter fluid around the intake (slowly) and listen for an increase in RPM's That will tell you if there's a leak and where it is.
