     Ford has some great vehicles, but for their flagship truck to have an aluminum body, I can see a lot of truck replacements in the future.

Clearly aluminum and ford was not a good idea.

I'm not against the aluminum body idea. But until the body shops are equipped and trained, fixing these will be expensive. A problem that will fix itself over time.

I just think it is appalling that every time there is a Ford story it usually involves fire.

It seems on our local news atleast, when there is a house fire there will be a Ford truck smoldering in the ashes of the garage!?!?!......

Any 10th grade science student can tell you what happens when dissimilar metals contact each other

For several years ford used an aluminium body fuel pump relay bolted to the steel frame on 150s and expys

THe resulting corrosion destroys the aluminium

How many places on the  body do they have steel bolted to aluminium ?

Land rover has done the aluminum thing for years, Humvees have an aluminum body but a standard everyday truck? I'm really skeptical. I just saw an aluminum 2015 F150 King Ranch and while it looked impressive I'm just not on board yet with that material.

Ford also uses a high-strength, dual-phase steel alloy for about 80 percent of the truck’s frame. The high-strength steel, which has a yield strength of more than 70 ksi, enabled Ford engineers to cut about 60 lb from the frame. Together, the aluminum alloys and the high-strength steel combined to eliminate about 700 lb from the overall vehicle weight. An F-150 4 x 4 crew cab, for example, drops from about 5,500 lb to about 4,800 lb.

so thats 700 more lbs you can haul
