Trash Container

What do you all use as a trash container for the interior of your trucks, and did our trucks ever come with such an accessory or the ability to accept one?

For example, my old 74 Impala Station Wagon had a removable trash container built in to the side/floor area on the passenger side ("kick-panel" I think it's called). When I look at the passenger side of my truck, it reminds me of that. What is that chrome piece BTW?

I open the slider window and then I've got an 8' trash container. I think that's all Chevy offered for our trucks.

The chrome piece is where the knob should be for the cab air vents. What it's doing there i'm not sure.

The chrome piece is a filler plug for the mentioned handle for the vent in the kick panel housing. Your ride has A/C so the valve is operated by a vacuum diaphragm for your recirculating air. Somebody will let you know if this is incorrect.

the first thing that comes to my mind when you ask about a trash container is the door pouches




id imagine you could make them easily removable with some hooks on the top holes and some velcro on the bottoms to keep them from flappin around when the doors need to be slammed closed

I forgot I wasn't on reddit for a moment, and was looking for the 'upvote' button.

The chrome piece replaces the knob on pickups equipped with air conditioning. Those vehicles don't have the manually opened floor vents.

For trash, I've this bag that I hang on the passenger side floor vent knob. It also doubles as a drink holder that I can't reach.

It used to be attached using the wall mount bracket that it came with. Over the years, being at an angle evidently took its toll on that bracket, because eventually it didn't hold the extinguisher anymore. (I don't remember what part of the bracket failed.) I found this bracket at a second-hand store. It seems to be just another type of wall-mount bracket, but this one has that piece that supports the bottom. The previous bracket didn't have that support; It held the neck, and the quick release band held the middle.

Still, the first bracket lasted fifteen years, so I'm not going to complain about that at all.

That location seems to be out of the way. I've rode on that side a few times, and I didn't notice it was there. It would mount upright behind the seat nicely too, if you didn't want a big red bottle uglying up your interior. Don't have one in the cab and not have it mounted, though. My boss did that, and it rolled under his seat. When he tried to move his seat and it didn't budge, he put some force into it, and broke it at the neck. The inside of his pickup was absolutely covered in that yellow powder!

The panels were dented up, so I put a piece of tin over them in 1987. I intended it to be a temporary fix, until I could do a more professional looking repair.
