putting on a blower
« on: July 22, 2005, 10:28:00 pm »
Is it really worth it to put a blower on my truck.  The motor is starting to use quite a bit of oil and I'm just going to pull the motor during the winter and rebuild it.  A supercharger is a good quick way to substantially increase horsepower but is it really worth it.   I would just go with a weiand 144 for now, because it is cheap and I've heard what the small blowers will do to a stock motor.

if your motor is getting weak, using oil, etc... i wouldnt recommened anything to get quick, easy power. a blower would be the death to your truck very quickly since it increases the compression ratio. thats what I think/know but i could be wrong. also i know you need better head gaskets otherwise you'll continue to blow them out

Putting a blower on a worn engine that is using oil is a bad idea.

I was thinking of putting a blower on it in the spring after I rebuild it.

In that case, yeah it is worth it.  I would build the motor for the supercharger application though.  No super wild cam profiles or high compression.

A blower like the one you described is well worth it.....it adds almost 200 cubic inches of displacement. Like stated above, match components to blower.

I don't think you'll have a prob with a cowl hood. these trucks have a lot of room.
