In the quest to get my rear brakes to work, well, get FLUID TO the rear drums, i have replaced the proportionate valve(Carolina Trucks), master cylinder, blown the lines out to check for blockages. After talking to captk, he suggested i change the rear brake hose, so i went and got it and tried to get the stock one off.... and the chevy finally got me. I've been opened up from the hand, head before, leaking and aint miss a beat, but this one pretty much killed any progress.

I'm up under there, had some multipurpose penetrating spray for the lines cause they're quite rusted. Impossible to get them off, so i grabbed a torch and heated em, still nothing and im very leery to twist the lines up not knowing of a place close with replacements. I heated the lines one more time, and put my all, toes and elbow into it, and some rust broke loose, fell straight down between my safety glasses and face, and into my eye. Scratched my cornea, had to go to urgent care, dyed my eyeball, it was no fun. A/B eyedrops, dr office trip, stock line still on, still no rear brakes. dang my chevy got me man........... Grrrrr...... smh

bummer.  Hope you are doing ok.  Those rear hoses are a bear to get off under the truck.  It is honestly easier to pull the bed.
Did you remove the fitting from the axle housing or?

Dang!  I had the same thing happen to me years ago.  I remember the dye.  I still have the divot in my cornea but my vision remained intact.  Hope you suffer no long term ill effects.

Been there man!  I have had my Cornea die grinded to fix an issue with recurring erosion on my cornea.  It takes a while to heal and for around 10 dollars a pair of safety glasses will help prevent that in the future.  I never used to wear them but our eyes are super important!  Get better and get after that truck!

Years ago under my 86 working on the exhaust had some rust get in my eye (back when I was superman ) and thought I got it all out. Think it was a day or two later but eye was still bothering me. Looked in the mirror and saw rust in my eye, took a q tip to try and touch it to get it out Wouldn't move.

Went to the er (no heath care) they looked at it said I have a rust ring and need to go to a specialist to have it removed. Not having money or insurance I lived with it, ended up going away by itself in a couple weeks

If your lines are that rusty, do yourself a favor and purchase new lines. They are cheap and can easily be bent by hand. Safety first, if you think it could happen it probably will happen.

I think the only thing that would've prevented that from happening is having swimmers goggles on. It was just freak that it fell between the glasses i had on and my face into my eye. Almost a week later, i can finally blink with no maddening irritation. the a/b drops have greatly helped. Vision is ok thank God and the best part, i went back at it the other day and got the lines off without twisting and mangling the lines. Bad news is, a reg wrench/line wrench will NO LONGER get the lines off, straight vice grips only. The lines were rusted into the mounts so bad, the wrenches stripped them horribly. So I'll be replacing brake lines at some point. Actually got them off by undoing the lines from the wheel cylinder and rotating them out that way.

The 7/16" line i believe it was, the bigger rear brake line also was spotted leaking, so it was taken off again, lined with teflon tape, entire brake system bled over again, no leakage this time.

I surely didnt appreciate the pain and the rust in my eye, but man i feel alot better with rear brakes working afte all these years. No more "pre-braking" due to front discs only.

I'm completely serious about pulling the body off down to the frame and sandblasting and sealing the entire frame. It made me that angry. I know its a mountain of a task but dang all that rust falling down again. Thats what you get when a truck comes from up north with the snow/salt working its magic over the years.

Just wanted to update you guys. I'll have something up about shocks soon, im currently perusing the archives here before i post to see if i can find an image or similar issue.

A friend that came down from NY (another welder/fabricator ) we laughed at it but its smart. He uses a paint ball mask when he's grinding. Don't know how much the impact rating is for them but for rust/sparks it works fine

Must be a NY thing. I also use a paintball mask. works perfect
