My 1985 chevy k10 build
« on: December 21, 2014, 11:18:06 pm »
Hey guys! I'm new to the forum, just looking to share my build proccess with you! Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. First off, I am 15, I know some about old trucks/cars but not an expert (obviously) this will be my first "true" build, this is my second truck and third vehicle. I had a 1980 chevy k20 (never should have sold it. 😞) and decided it was time to build a cool 4x4. I picked up this beauty for $1500 no motor, 700r4 trans 205 transfer case body is in pretty decent condition. Needs rocker/cab corner work and a new bed floor. My plans are to build a mild 350 for it and rebuild a turbo 400 also, next will be the body, and when I get the extra money I will do a COMPLETE 3/4 ton suspension swap (Dana 60's hopefully) it came with a 4" lift kit unfortunately it has a block lift, but it will do until I do the suspension swap and to buy some 35's for it. Will try to get some pics of it when I bought it soon, hopefully I can start working on it within a week or so.

Welcome from maryland. if you have any questions about anything on the truck just ask and we will be more than happy to answer you, it may take some time due to not everyone knows everything about these trucks, but someone will chime in sooner or later

Howdy from Kansas.  Be sure to take lots of photos as you build your K-10.

Some kinda unfortunate news, I have a guy coming to look at the truck on Saturday. If he takes it I'm going to find me a 73-80 chevy (like the front end better)

Me too

Kinds weird though
With pickups I like the 73-79 better
With blazers  I like the 88-91s the best

The round headlights look goofy on the blazers but great on the pickups

Ya, I just miss my 1980 chevy k20 to much. I also have a complete front clip and other body parts for it.

You know you could have swapped the clips over easily right.

I looked into that and from what people have said you can only do that with an 81 or 82 cab we tried to do a front clip swap on my dads 85 and it didn't work, unless we did something wrong.

whomever told you that was completely incorrect.  everything bolts right up.  I helped the owner swap his over from a rusted 75 to this (84 or 86 don't remember which year):

Well! Deal fell through on the truck so it's back to the restoration! Did a little closer looking and found out I need a new frame (mines rusted out) and a new complete bed floor. But I picked up a 2002 chevy 2500hd for a daily driver so I'm going to take my time and do it the way I want it the first time. I've decided I'm going to sell the 4" lift and do a 6" lift with 35" bfg km2's. First thing is to get the body lines correct on the front clip and shim it, then tear it all back down and sandblast it and paint it. I've also decided on a two tone black and grey with a red pinstripe. Like the picture below. I'll get some pics up when I start the tear down.
