350 torque converter lockup
« on: December 24, 2014, 01:49:04 am »
Sirs/ma'ams,

I have a 81 c10 with a 350/350. The previous owner hacked up the wiring pretty bad and I now have a truck with the tq converter lockup wires and vacuum line that are not connected and cut. My question is do I NEED to have a converter lockup mechanism? Since they are not even connected I'm thinking of removing it unless I need it. Thanks in advance.

vacumn line should be hooked to manifold vacumn. You don't have to do the lockup, when working they can give 2-3 mpg on the highway

Going from not having a lock up converter to having one, I highly suggest fixing it. You will be very pleased.

It will help with mileage hooked up.

Thank you for the replies. I don't drive the truck enough to need to worry about mpg. I will remove the wiring after x-mas and post some pics since it should clean up the engine bay a little. I even bought a new brake light switch with only two prongs. This way it will look as if the TC wire was never there. Thanks again guys, Merry Christmas.

Isn't the 350C's lockup controlled by computer?   i noticed that i have 2 wires running from the vacuum switch on the firewall going to the esc computer area?
