timing chain

hey guys i need some help. i bought a comp cam kit 12-235-2. my question is would it be ok if i use a stock replacement timing set from parts store or the one comp cam recommends. im building a 355 sbc with vortec heads. its going in 83 chevy c10 silverado trim. i want to go with the double roller timing set but not for sure if my stock timing cover will work with a double roller timing set.  please help and thanks in advance

will the stock timing cover have any trouble fitting over the doulbe roller. i have been reading that the stock timing cover will not fit

The double roller set is more robust than the stock timing set. As well,  if you use the set from comp, if you ever have a problem with the cam, it will be easier to warranty the cam if you use their parts along with it, if it can be warrantied. I used the comp cam and lifter kit 12-238-2 with a double roller set and comps solid one-piece chromoly push rods. I also used a stock replacement timing cover with the timing set. No problems.

  I've installed a few Cloyes double roller timing chains into SB Chevy's.  They fit under the stock timing chain cover.
  Looking back its funny how as a kid installing a "double roller" timing chain into a worn out motor gave you instant bragging rights.

Haha yes it did. I just remembered that the double roller I put in my current 350 is a Mellings.

Cloyes double roller.. CHeaper and good stuff. Don't get sucked into the large brand name stuff for cheaper stuff.

ok guys i bought the double roller timing chain. at first it kind of hard putting it on because it seemed like the chain was too short but after fumbling around i got it on with no problem. got everthing in time like it should be. now i see just how stretched my old chain was. mane its a wonder the motor didn't jump timing. i can barely squeeze themiddle of the chain together. now thats tight. the factory timing cover went on no problem also. thanks guys for all you help!!! Good too hear. Yes the double roller or a new timing chain makes a world of difference.
