Wipers Park "Up"

1975 C10 Shortbed

The wipers park in the "up" position.  Initially, the wiper function was very random and sporadic, so I replaced the dash mount wiper switch.  Now the wipers work perfectly, both fast and slow speeds....but they park in the "up" position when I switch them "off."

I tried to remove the wiper arms and reset them in the parked position so that they're parked down....which didn't work, because the knobs want to go down first and up, second.

I'm wondering if I need to reset the linkage to the wiper motor?

Any help with this would be appreciated.  I can post some pics if that helps (lmk).

You may have crossed wires while replacing switch.

It's probably a faulty park switch.  Look at the 1987 Service Manual, page 1100 (8A-31), Figure 33, Procedure 5 - "WIPER SHUTS OFF BUT BLADES DON’T RETURN TO PARK POSITION" for the diagnostic procedure.

Did you replace it with the correct year switch? Put the original switch back in it and clean the connections at the wiper motor and ensure the ground circuit is good. If it still does it, replace the motor

I've been stumbling over finding a good service Manual.  There are some CDs out there with "4 Volumes".....I just ordered an old, 1985 copy of a Chiltons.....any suggestions on where to find the Manual you reference here?

That happened to me as well. I rotated the linkage (arm) on the motor 180° and forgot about it.

For the sake of making this thread a resource for others, I feel obliged to follow up with my solution:

After following all of the factory test procedures per the helpful posts and determining that the wiper motor, switch, and park switch were all in working order:
1.  I allowed the wipers to park (they, of course, parked "up")
2.  I loosened and removed the 7/16th nut that connected the wiper arm assembly to the wiper motor.
3.  I manually pulled the wiper arm assembly until the wipers were "parked" in the correct "down" position.
4.  I then reconnected the wiper arm assembly and wiper motor by reinstalling the 7/16th connection nut originally removed in step 2.

Now, the wipers park correctly.  Basically, whoever made the connection before me, did so incorrectly.
