It keeps running and it won't stop unless I unplug the fan. Any ideas

What are we working on? With or without AC? Stock configuration?

Ok so I got sick of turning it on and off by popping the hood and plugging in the fan to the blower or unplugging it so I took the dash apart cut the power source to the controls and spliced in a rocker switch.
This fixed the problem so I don't have to pop the hood and pull the plug but the funny thing is, the fan won't blow until I turn on the toggle like you would expect and/or you leave the toggle in the off postion and just turn on the regular controls how you would normally use them....

Very very odd but it works, I suppose. A lot better then pulling a plug or plug in a plug. What do you think, I would like to hear your opinion.  ;D

The approach you described to fixing your wiring issues invariably leads to long term maintenance nightmares. I've had too many old vehicles that have been hacked instead of fixed. I would probably have fixed the real issue instead of going through the effort you describe to provide a work-around. (since you asked my opinion)

Granted.. it is just my opinion, and I'm decidedly more OCD than some.

By my description I really don't need the wire I cut because ieven though I turned it off at the toggle switch it still yet functions probably at the original controls. Did you catch this in my last post? Why do you think this is? Before I cut it I check all the wires that lead into the back of the controls and it was being powered by 2 wires one was continuous power ( that's the one I cut and placed a toggle on) the other is variable power.

From your description it sounds like you cut the power supply line to the switch. I don't understand how you wouldn't think you don't need that line.

I guess without seeing it it's hard to understand exactly what is going on, but it still sounds to me like the OEM switch is the real issue.

You know you have power, so that eliminates most of the possible wiring issues.
You know that when you supply power, or cut it, the blower behaves as is intended, so it's not an issue with the blower.

You know that the control switch is not behaving as intended. This seems to me to be the only element in the equation this is an unknown, and pulling the switch and testing it should be able to confirm it for you.

There are a couple details I'm unclear on, however I'm going to take a stab at what you have going on with the limited info you provided.

I'm going to "assume" you are working on the truck you have in your sig & description. Then I'm going to "assume" when you say: "keeps running & won't stop",  you mean on low speed only...the reason this is happening is rather simple: It was made that way. The bottom position of the switch is LOW, not OFF

Here's a photo to help:

Now if my assumptions were wrong...well, then my answer is likely wrong as well. Hope this helps, Lorne

Ditto on the above.  The fans on the trucks for all years are never "off"
