Hey guys, i have attempted to replace the push rod cover gaskets with the cork by fel pro on my 84 c10 4.1. I installed then like the parts store said ( blk silicone on the side facing the cover )and put it back together i started her up and noticed a little oil leaking around the corners so i tightened it up and it seam to stop. (Oil pressure gauge read about 30, i dont know what it should read!! So if you know please share) after warm up i drove down the road and saw it dropped to 25psi. I pulled over and looked under the hood and oil was flowing out from the gasket. By the time i go home it was 20psi. What did i do wrong and did i damage my engine?

Fel-Pro blue one piece gaskets and ensure your valve covers are flat. Then get spreader bars to help.

Did you do anything to block the oil drain back holes in the head? Drop any old chunks of gasket down inside the head?

Only thing I see is perhaps the gaskets were able to slide out of their place with the silicone. I like to use brush on Copper Coat on the really clean covers and let it get almost dry before sticking the gasket in place. I doubt your engine was hurt if you were driving normally and didn't run it completely out of oil. Not sure what pressure is normal for a six banger but would guess that 25 with engine warm and freeway speed would be ok, 30-35 would be better.

Thank you for the reply, I did the side covers So dont think anything fell in them.. I am thinking of trying to find a rubber gasket if they exist, the cork was kida tights around the covers.. Was i suppose to silicone it to the motor as well?

On I-6 tappet cover gaskets (side cover), I've had the best success with Permatex #2 on both sides of a cork gasket. Of course, ensure the cover and block are thoroughly clean before applying the gasket.

Use this stuff to seal gaskets. Clean gasket and mating surfaces with lacquer thinner. Rub TiteSeal into both sides of gasket and both mating surfaces, leaving a very thin coating. Assemble. End of problem.
