Getting a motor running

Hello
  I have been looking for a new used motor for a v10 pickup . A person I do not know has a 87 blazer that has been sitting a little while , not very long . He has stated that the thing needs transmission and brake lines . I know this a common problem , in the "rust belt .
   The rub is it needs fuel pump also . Is there a way to get this thing running , for a few minutes , just to hear the motor run ?

Low psi Electric fuel pump drawing from small gas can
Make sure to have fire ext on hand just in case of a problem

depends, a tbi likes 18psi if you tap into the existing fuel supply line and run a correct pump with the right psi the ecm will take over. if you dont have the right pump you might run lean or the engine might not run at all

Yes I understand . It is a TBI . I  should look for a 18 PSI pump .
    We have two feet of snow here so , no hurry , just trying to think ahead a bit .

also if you can run a hot wire from the battery to the fuel pump relay, theres a 4" red wire with a female spade connection on it. if you give that wire 12v you will bypass the relay and power the pump directly and you might luck out and the pump might just start up

Alright that great info . I will find the relay on my truck and look it over so , when I go to look at this one , I will know just where it is . Is it common for the relays to fail ?

I wouldn't say common but can happen. Sometimes they don't get energized by the ecm due to other problems. But its real easy to bypass so might as well try

If you just want to fire it up to see if it knocks, give it a shot of starting fluid.

A spray bottle with gas in it. Have someone crank it while you mist it. Have run many motors this way. Have run a motor a few times by putting a rag over part of the carb or TBI soak it with gas, it will run for a minute or two, longer if you keep the rag wet.
