I need to R&R my transmission and transfer case but I have no clue how to do it. I can't seem to find any step by step instructions on youtube or through the forums. Can someone help? Thanks I advance. I'm sure this will help people in the future.

You'll need a transmission jack

I remove the t case seperatly just because it's so heavy

Then pull one boot from the trans to bell housing
Go buy 4 new ones just like it but 3" longer
Saw off the head and use a hacksaw to cut a screwdriver slot where the head used to be

Replace the factory bolts one at a time wih these  new
Ones

THat way when you slide the trans back these bolts will support the weight
Makes it a lot easier to re install because you have to hold the trans up and turn the output shaft a little to line up the splines into the clutch disc

I'm just trying to wrap my head around this. You recommend that I buy 4 longer bolts and then cut off the bolt head and replace with a screwdriver slot...why can't I just buy the longer bolts and leave the bolt head there? I'm just trying to understand the concept

The bolts act as dowels with the head on them you can't put the bell housing on.

Bolting the bell back on the engine is pretty easy since it has dowels

Bolting the trans to the bell is not easy

The headless bolts will support the 200 lb weight of the transmission while you get the input shaft splines lined up and inserted into the clutch disc

There's probably some how to vids on YouTube

Drain the oil from the t case and trans before you remove  them

And you will need a helper
The trans alone weighs 150 lbs I think
T case is 110 or so
