First time truck build
« on: March 02, 2015, 05:34:54 pm »
Ok, here is the plan.  Grandpa's ole blue long bed cab to be put on the white short bed frame and short bed.  The white one has been gutted and tore all a part, its just a roller.  I Am going to have to take wiring and and all of blue one to swap over.  I have built my fair share of race cars but this for some reason intimidates me.  Have a left monster 350 from one of our stock cars that we are going to drop in it.  Motor does not concern me just all the wiring and break lines fuel lines all that crap. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Take lots of pictures if it's your first time and label things accordingly.

The pictures are so tiny I can barely see any detail in them.

What is wrong with the cab on the white truck?

Seems like the blue one is in too good of shape just to parcel out.

If the white one needs rockers, or cab corners those are not difficult to put in......you are obviously going to have to paint it all before it can be classed as complete.

If it is interior parts and wiring that the white one needs you could sell the blue one to pay for that and not have take another square body off the road.

White one is stripped completely. They were going to make a hot rod out of it. The Firewall on the white one is also rusted out.  The Blue one was my Granddads truck but just dont want the long bed.  Considered cutting down frame but think it will be easier to swap cab over to short bed frame of white one.  The only rust there is, is on the white bed drivers side behind the wheel well.

Well in that case swapping the cab is not as difficult as you might think. If you have a lift it is a real easy chore. But it can be done with good old fashioned manpower. Stripped, the cab isn't more than about 400#.

Guys are constantly looking for quality, straight beds. If the blue one is in good shape sell it for a high price so someone won't be tempted to make it into a trailer......that is what old Ford, and Dodge trucks are for.

I might be interested in the long bed for my truck so don't price it too high? Where are you located? I am in Colorado Springs.

I bought a 100% rust free bed off of an M-1008 for $150.00.

I could easily flip it for 10x that much.
