Power steering line

Replacing my high pressure line. I've had trouble in the past with a leak where it goes into the pump. I don't want to strip the threads. Heard plumbing tape isn't a good idea on high pressure hydrolic lines.  Pipe dope? Ideas?  Thanks! It's a new pump and not cross threaded.

With the o-ring newer style you shouldn't have an issue.  Something is nicked if it leaks, the 37 degree taper (older style) or the o-ring (newer style) is the sealing contact area not the threads.

Just replaced the high pressure hose in my truck and was the non oring style and it doesn't leak at all and I didn't use any tape or dope.

Just snug em up and they shouldn't leak at all.

Almost want a tee shirt saying I drove this rig without power steering new line is in.. correctly this time... With O rings in place. It's kinda close to the exhaust mani. . Wonder if anyone has ever put a cooler in.

You could pick up an auxiliary transmission cooler and use it as a power steering cooler. They are pretty cheap and available at most auto parts stores. Automatic transmission fluid and power steering fluid are both basically detergent hydraulic fluids. Infact lots of GM vehicles use auto trans fluid in the power steering fluid system, I do this as well. Reason being that it has higher heat capabilities and is a little tougher due to the pressures and forces a transmission usually endures that most power steering systems wouldn't see.

If its close to the exhaust mani your possibly have your lines running the wrong way.

As LTZ stated any fluid cooler will work.  This is a factory power steering cooler from the 80's models

Hmm... bend up some tubing.. Lil rubber and some clamps?

Bubble flare the lines for the hoses and you'll be good.

Teflon tape & pipe dope are only for when the threads are used to seal. Such as pipe threads. As far as the cooler lines go, you will need to use hydraulic return hose. Don't use fuel line.
