Yep it will work. Read some of the other body swapping threads for info and problem areas.

Will a 73-80 front clip fit on a 86 cab?? I would assume so because it works the other way.

Prices vary depends on where your from and who you know. if it were me I would look for a whole truck. I have sold complete front clips for $75 to $350 depending on condition etc.. Not sure what year but they changed the position of the tail gate hinge latch assembly, the fold out braces that keep the gate from opening to far got shorter on the newer trucks. As afr as the frontend you need every thing from the doors forward, the windsheild wiper transmision assembly, the hood latch release handle/cable, and the wiring harness. As far as the hinges go you will need to cut pockets into your cowl to match those of the newer truck, the hinges are mounted to the cab from 81 up, just the springs mount to the fenders. You will need to drill some holes for the cowl filler panel in the cowl just below the rubber gasket, and some self tappers will srew the plastic screen down and it bolts to that and the hinge bracket in the front. The wiper transmision needs to have two of the three holes in each side moved about half a hole. And you will have to do some minor improvising to get the glass juice onto the wiper arms. The fuse box has a bolt ( 7/16 I think ) In the midle of it under the hood. Unbolt that and the harnes unplugs, the newer one will plug in but you might need to move some of the pin positions. I think that just about covers it.

Thanks for your help! Man that is a lot of work. After looking at the truck again there is really not that much of a difference. I think I will just focus on restoring her, as is. I will keep you all posted on progress. Thanks again!

Puting the older nose on the newer cab is alot less work. Going from 81 to 89-91 is just about a direct bolt on.

yes going older is a little more involved but not too bad...mainly due to fenders and hood cowel.........but you need the whole front clip for either mod.

How do you figure going older is more involved? Going older dose not require any cutting, welding, or fabrication of hood hinge pockets, to me that sounds like a lot less work. I have swaped 81 and up noses onto older trucks at least half a dozen times, and swaped a 76 nose onto an 85 last summer and it was alot easier going to the older nose.
