I've been away for a little while.  My son was born, my new 383 is doing great, it's a good thing, because my dad's garage burned up.  Some may remember my website of putting the 383 in my 79 p/u last spring

Well, here is the garage that the job was done in today

Thank goodness the chevy wasn't in there Thanksgiving morning when all the tools and equipment were lost.

I guess i have to work on the truck at my own house now.  No big deal, did i mention the new  383 stoker is running great now?   Heck, perhaps i'll pass this ole 79 chevy down to my newborn son in 16 yrs

Well, things have settled down here a llittle, so i'll be throwing my 2 cents in every once in a while.  

The point of this entry is to remind everyone about garage combustibles.  We had so many propane tanks, shotguns, ammo, gas cans, etc. in the garage.  The firefighters were apprehensive about getting too close to the raging fire w/ all the shells blasting and tanks blowing.  The fire started by a short in the electricity.  It's a shame, my  dad lost all of his tools (60 yrs of gathering). But no one was hurt.

Man, that is just horrible!  I am sorry to hear about what happened, but at least you, your father, and all family members are OK.  

I am also glad your Chevy wasn't in harms way...it is a nice looking truck!

The garage and its contents were insured.  But I'll tell ya, he'll never replace all that he had...antique tools, his favorite hammer that he built his house with, so much gone.  He pretty much has a blank check to shop and replace all w/ brand new tools (nephew Sterling got a new ATV for xmas) and stuff.  The money for the dwelling really won't cover for a contracter to rebuild the 4 bay garage, but will take care of the materials if we rebuild it.  Learn from his mistake....re-evaluate your insurance coverage!!!!  He should've upped his garage value to around 65k, instead of the 33k he had on it.  The contents inside the garage will be completely covered.  
And yes, it is good that no one was inside.  My brother and dad actually ran into the shed area of it to start his dodge p/u up and back it out.  They managed to get it out, but w/ $4,995.00 damage--burnt hood, bumper, radiator, fenders, windsield, grille, headlights, etc.

Please review your dwelling replacement costs in case this happens to you!

Sorry to read about the garage fire, SgtDel. Glad to hear everyone was okay. Congratulations on your son! Crystal and I were thinking about putting a 383 in our 77 Silverado... posted on 4x4 page about info and tips we're looking for. We're in CA, and I was a Marine Sgt. back during the first Iraq war, got out in 92. Just found this site today and feel like I'm in Chevy heaven! I've owned so many Chevys over the years...72 Vega GT, 79 GMC Jimmy, 78 Big 10 2wd 454, 78 Suburban, 72 El Camino; presently own a 95 GMC 1500 and our 77 Silverado that's gonna get some serious TLC!
