I just finished rebuilding the 12-bolt in my '77 (all prices Canadian, and these were the best prices I could get):New axles & c-clips, 3.73 gears, axle bearings, ring & pinion master kit: $817CDNDetroit TrueTrac: $537CDN ($454USD @ Summit Racing, price listed is CDN, includes shipping)Brake drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, wheel studs, hardware kit, can of paint for drums, $144CDNTotal spent: $1498CDNI rebuilt the entire axle myself, and spent all day swapping axles. Generally US dollar is a lot better than in Canada, but this may give you an idea of the parts alone.Price out the parts through Summit or Jegs or elsewhere, then add a 3-5 hours labour to do the rebuild. Price you found is probably not bad.
Here's the text of the ad. Fully rebuilt and upgraded with an Eaton Posi unit & Yukon 373 gears, all new bearings(axle & carrier), seals, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, new brake drums, brake hose & high capacity cast aluminum differential cover. Ready to install complete with 80w90 gear oil and posi additive. I will also provide a 90 day warranty.
