On my way to look at another truck I don't need.

  Nice rainy Saturday morning and I'm heading out to an auction to look at another M1009 Military Blazer.
  I'm guessing its more of a parts truck than a driver. Hopefully the rain will keep a big crowd from showing up.
  Anyone else that can't resist the urge to buy trucks that they really don't need?

  I need a bigger trailer.
  I ended up buying 2 Military CUCV's today at a fire department auction.
  I got the M1009 Blazer that I knew was going to be there. Its missing the batteries, alternators, & radiator. The rocker panals &  rear 1/4's have a little rust behind the rear tires, but its good for a New England rust belt truck. The doors are mint on it.  Paid $800 for it.
  I was surprised to find a M1008 (k30) there. I paid $650 for it.  Good solid body with a little rust in 1 rocker.  Its a clean cab & bed otherwise  Its missing the batteries & the radiator. The writing on the windshield says "no brakes, no 4x4".
  I took the pick up home with me.  I connected  the oil lines with heater hose & tranny lines together with fuel line.  I put 2 batteries in it and it started on the first try.
  Its very odd that the pick up cost more than the blazer.

I would love to have the Blazer. Get it running, reliable, and safe and donate it to our local fire department.

A lot of the fire departments and a few of the police departments here in Mass still have the CUCV's.  The departments get them from the Military then have the vocational high schools fix them up.

  With your projects we get to see the progress as you work on them.
  Although I enjoy working on my trucks, I also like the hunt.  I always enjoy the auctions. 
  I probably should have spent the day working on my other trucks, but the thrill of the the auction is tough to resist.
   Someday I'll put a motor in my blue step side, (its been sitting inside for 4 years with a blown motor).
  I could have spent the day removing the 6" lift from my other M1009 and replacing it with a 2" lift.  I bought that blazer last fall thinking I would lower it down and use it as a daily driver. The blazer got parked next to the step side and forgotten about.
  Yup, lots of projects to work on today, but the auction was calling my name.
  Maybe I'll get to them next weekend, if the boats not calling my name.

I am in Colorado. Our Fire Rescue has fairly new equipment. A CUCV for show and running errands would be cool.
You just planted a seed.
A company I worked for years ago bought some of the contracts from the company that built the CUCV's. I still remember some of the conversion process.

I got a 454 suburban. I had plans to put it on a 4x4 frame.  Well, you know how that goes, never got around to it. Maybe next weekend, maybe not.

Engineer, you have some cool trucks in you collection. If you got a M1008 you might find that it quickly becomes your favorite truck.
  I have a M1028 that I drive daily in the nice weather.
  Its hard to believe a bare bones truck can be so much fun.
