Reproduction Bed Fitment- frustrated
« on: October 04, 2015, 06:09:40 pm »
Finally got around to putting the bed together on my 1980 k10. I bought two repop bed sides, which don't fit worth a dang and when I went to see if my tailgate fits, it doesn't of course. It seems like the bed sides are to close together and the tailgate doesn't fit between the two by about 1/4". Any ideas?

Have you welded the back of the bed yet? If you have welded the rear of the bedsides, cut the weld and mount the tailgate. You don't weld the rear of the bedside until after the tailgate is mounted. This is what I have been told. This way you can get the gap right on both sides. Good luck  and I hope this helps.

I would use a load lock or something like that to spread the bedsides apart until the gap is right. Then I would spot weld it and check for fitment. If you don't have a load lock use a 2x4 and a bottle jack or portapower .
