Sorry if this seems like a like a dumb question but do you have to remove the upper dash pad in order to remove the entire gauge cluster? Removing the front bezel doesn't seem to give full access. I'm replacing my cluster holder assembly (the light mint green part that the printed circuit attaches to) because it already has several broken tabs. Maybe from someone trying to pull it out the front?
Appreciate any input so I don't damage the new one!

Removing the dash pad is simple. A few screws and slide pull it towards you to release it from the 6 clips underneath. Much better access to the guages, bezel, etc. plus it gives you a chance to maybe clean in there and access other stuff.

Thanks Philo, then I'm correct in assuming that the dash pad
does
have to be removed in order to remove the cluster without damage?

yes. but even with it removed i always have to play with the cluster for a little bit for it to come out, if you force it too much you can break it

You don't need to remove the dash pad. The speedo cable needs to be unclipped, lift it up slightly over the metal frame, pull forward, unplug it, disconnect the fiber optic pigtail and it's out.

True, you dont HAVE to remove it. But if your just getting in there for the first time its nice to see whats going on. You have access to a lot more stuff.
