How long is your commute to work?
« on: November 16, 2015, 07:03:13 pm »
  The title says it all.
I'm just curious about the distance/time on your daily commute to work.
I just started house shopping. I now have a 30 minute commute to work. If I'm willing to extend my commute to the 1 hour range, I can get a house with the land to build my dream garage down the road.
Does anyone have an hour (or more) commute?
Thanks.
Fitz

When I had a regular place of employment I drove 47 miles one way to the south side of Chicago.  Most days it was a 55 minute commute but an accident or bad weather would ramp that up in a hurry.  Now I have about 10 steps to the home office but could may be 150 miles depending on what customer I have to see in my company car (mobile office).

I live a block and a half away from the shop so its a 5 minute walk.  If I let my truck warm up properly, it takes me longer in the winter to take my truck then it does to walk.

I used to live on long island, only moved there for the job. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Lived on the refuge property north shore but had to commute to JFK, 1 hour without traffic. But theres always traffic!! Now im ten min.  A bad commute can take its toll on life, just a warning.

I had an hour commute when I worked in San Francisco. Fortunately, I took the BART and spent that time reading. I'd say an hour is about the limit. After that, it's time to start asking yourself some serious questions about the life you're living.

It's 9.6 miles from my driveway to my works driveway. I start in the country, go straight down the big road west thru town to the middle, then take a right and go straight up the big road thru town north. Literally a giant L. Fasted time with all greens signals, no traffic, about 10-13 min. Longest time, about 35 min. Most days tho, it's between 15-20. Just long enough to enjoy it, just short enough to not wanna quit lol. I actually enjoy my drives to and from work, most days anyway I do. Plus when it's late at night, I have a good stretch of road that's dead straight so I can flex my trucks 8 cylinder muscles. Really getting all that torque shoved into the ground, let the exhuast stretch it's vocal cords, if you know what mean.

im 14.8 miles one way from my job. getting to work it takes 30-40 minutes depending on traffic and traffic lights. getting home(depending on if i get off at 3pm 5pm or 7pm) can vary from 25-40 minutes.

i used to have roughly a 25 mile commute that would take almost an hour to get to work at 8am and when i got off at 8pm it would take abour 45 to get home. that was if traffic wasnt horrible. i had to go through 2 heavy traffic areas and 2 small towns with 25mph zones plus school buses in the mornings if i wasnt lucky enough. it was miserable and i hated it. on bad days it was an hour plus both ways.

I live about 2 miles away from my work so it generally only takes me 5 to 10 minutes at most to get there. But it always depends on traffic or if I have wildlife run across the road! The joys of living in a rural mountain small town! But traffic gets heavier in the summertime as people come here to escape the heat in Phoenix and Tucson, mostly those with second homes in the area.

42 miles, takes 50 minutes barring traffic/accidents. I also go opposite the main flow and work at night.

Been doing it for 13 years, no big deal for me.

It can be a pain in the winter  but I only get a few days of bad roads usually.

Traffic and bad weather would be the determining factor  for me.

An hour is my limit weather it's 10 miles or 50.

I also drive a 97 4cyl ranger back and forth, has 349k which is something to consider also.

I used to work in Chicopee MA and lived in Andover CT at the time. Took me about an hour each way so I bought a Nissan Altima cheap and a radar detector. Now my commute is about 30 minutes and I get to go all back roads. Dream garage is something to consider though!

Now that I'm in Kansas, my commute can be up to 8 minutes... One way...

If I'm willing to extend my commute to the 1 hour range, I can get a house with the land to build my dream garage down the road.   Does anyone have an hour (or more) commute?

I've lived in several locations and commutes of 10-45 miles with times ranging from 15 minutes to an hour. Some of the longer commute times were distance, others were traffic.   A couple of places I've lived had an extremely nice shop building and land with a reasonable commute time (20 & 40 min)  I hated to leave those places, but to move up I have to move around...  I guess it depends if you like the job you have and really like the house an hour away.

Yeah I'm glad my commute is less now because my daily driver is a V8. Hated driving a car

I drove a car for awhile while I did an engine and then a trans in my truck, it sucked.... I was born to drag around a tailgate.
