250 inline 6 only turns over half way!!!

WoW it has been a while since I posted on here!!! Ok I have a 1980 c10 short bed with a 250 inline 6 it has all ways been a good running truck till now. I have been replacing the floor so it has not been cracked it in a year. All it will do when you hit the switch is turn over half way???

can you clarify please? when you hit the starter it only rotates a little and stops? or you hit the starter and it turn halfway and now wont move? does the starter keep going but motor stops? that's about 3 quick scenarios I can think of out of a possible dozen

pull the spark plugs and see if it cranks freely

Ok vile I will try that!!!  The 250 will turn over half way then stop and nothing the starter does not click or anything!!!

Did you check for dead battery and/or corroded cables?

It did have a dead battery but I charged it and now it reads 13 volts. The cables are in good shape!!!

Just cause a battery has 12-13 volts does not mean it is good. Load testing is the only way to know for sure. Double check grounds(all of them)

Ok I tested the battery with a muiltmeter and it read 12.20 v It should be like 12.60 v???

ok does it crank over 1/2 way each time you hit the starter or does it recoil back to where it was?   was it full of antifreeze when you parked it?   there are so many variables that play into factor...if you pulled all the spark plugs and it still does it then that eliminates anything type of liquid in the cylinders...and it also eliminates a clogged exhaust system.

It cranks 1/2 way each time you hit the starter!!! As far as I know it has anifreeze. I still need to pull the plugs!!!

it sounds like the starter is giving out....have you tried jumping the starter?  it could very well be a starter solenoid.

Perform a proper load test on that battery.  And...

pull the spark plugs and see if it cranks freely

Both recommendations are fundamental to your complaint.

Ok I tested the battery and it is good. So that means its the starter. So I took it off and I am going to swap drive housing...

Ok today I tested the starter and it is fine!!! So I guess that points at the wiring or the motor??? Tomorrow I will try and turn the motor over by hand!!!

Ok next question?.....is it an automatic or manual transmission? If it is a manual it is possible that the clutch froze to the flywheel from sitting.....if it is a manual jack the back tires off the ground and try to crank it.
