Well today I had some time to check out a couple of known issues with the truck besides the airbag light.

I bought the truck with the radio not working...  The previous owner said it just quit playing one day.

Today was a nice enough day I thought I would change the radio out and see how the speakers sounded to see if I wanted to put some nice tunes or just get a stock radio for it.  I have a 99 Grand Am I am parting out that had a radio in it to try out.  I pull both radio's out and put the Grand Am's in there to see.  Still no sound...  I throw the truck radio in the Grand Am and it works fine...  Very confused and I can't imagine that all 4 speakers in the truck quit working at the same time???  Any ideas?  I tore 1/2 the dash apart trying to figure out the floor/vent/defrost cable to no avail.  I now know the radio is fine, the cable is binding but stuck on defrost as it was before, whole day wasted...

Makes sense, maybe someone will chime in and confirm it.

it apparently could be behind the glove box (smaller than a ecm) or in the center console (might be tahoe/burb/crewcab style)

No buckets, has a jump seat that is fixed in the middle.  You can't get much plainer of a truck than mine.

I had to replace all the speakers in my '05. The door speakers were the main culprit. If it was warm outside, the speakers worked okay.  When the speakers were cold, they quite working.

Are you hearing the "key in the ignition" or "headlight on" chime?

Yes the chime is working.  Clock, Seek, Scan, locks into stations, just zero sound.  Put the same radio into something else it works fine.

Stock GM radios sometimes have to be unlocked. They have a feature which prevents them from being swapped from car to car, unless they are unlocked. And they have to be similar model radios from similar model vehicles. The feature is for people who steal the and then try to resell them to unsuspecting customers.

Like radio from a 03 Tahoe into a 05 suburban, from a 02 suburban to a 01 truck, or from a 04 truck to  06 Tahoe. And sometimes they don't always work even if you unlock them.

The fact that truck radio works in the Pontiac is strange but I'm not surprised the Pontiac radio doesn't work in the truck. Is either radio have the word "locked" on the screen? Plus Pontiac radios have always been different from the radios used in the Chevy or gmc vehicles, whether it be car, truck or suv.

Ignore everything I just said here lol. Looks like you go lucky and the radio works. I thought it was a logic lock issue with the radio but since it works and just no sound then the issue probably isn't the radio. I typed all that before I read your post about everything working just no sound. Pull one of the door speakers from the Pontiac, pull both door panels on the truck and then unplug the truck speakers, plug in the Pontiac speakers and see if you get sound. The easiest way to test everything between the radio and the speaker is by swapping in a different speaker.

I do remember one time that we had a farm truck one day that lost all sound, turns out in fact all for speakers had stopped working 1 by 1 until the last 1 quick and the sound stopped. You have more diagnosis to do.

I have Google searched about 4 hours trying to find out if there is a remote amp situation but have only found mention of the higher end Bose systems...  I guess it is clip breaking door panel removal time.

Re: Factory Amp Bypass? (2001 Tahoe Non Bose)
Well, from my research on the net, I have discovered that the amp is in fact in the factory radio, but on the Tahoe's and Suburban's Non-Bose but with the factory sub in the rear, the amplified signal is sent to a crossover located behind the glove box. Since I installed a Pioneer deck which has an adjustable high pass crossover, I want to bypass the factory crossover. I actually found a thread on Z71Tahoe-Suburban.com with a way to do this.

Link To Thread

But thanks for all the suggestions guys
