What would cause the engine to stop running while driving for about 5-10 seconds then start running again?   This happened at about 50mph 3 separate times .

My first guess would be a fuel issue

That sounds like an interruption in ignition.  What vehicle is it Stewart?

I was having this problem when I had a bad 12V connection to my HEI distributor, there was a break in the source line and it would cut in and out

Another possibility. About 3 years ago one of the wires that went to the little pickup module under the rotor broke from being bent repetitively for almost 25 years. Then it just completely fell off and didn't run period.

Ok it was something simple----the positive cable from the battery was a little loose.  i had to repeatedly disconnect/connect the negative cable during the recent engine swap never paying much attention to the positive cable.

The clue was, while leaving work it was dark.  So i started it up and tried to get it to come off high-idle which it did, but then all of a sudden it conked out.  No lights, no click, no nothing.    So i figured if i had bright lights a second ago and now no lights at all, then it must be battery/power related and not necessarily ignition which is what i was originally leaning towards.

Thanks everyone.

Everythings got to be CLEAN and TIGHT.

Those are the fun fixes, wish my "bad vibration" was that easy.

Same here! I wish my occasional stumble/stall issue was that simple! I'm tired of throwing parts at it with effect on performance!

One the mechanics at work told me once, clean and tight is good, but if it's dry, you got lube it. "If you love it, lube it" were his exact words.
