Had a rough couple of weeks!
« on: February 28, 2016, 05:57:30 pm »
So if you've ever followed anything I work on you've probably seen pictures of Sabaka helping me out or at least supervising and most likely bugging me to play frisbee.

He's been my best buddy through the last 11 years going on 12. He's had some issues over the last 2 years that I believed were allergies.  2 weeks ago I had to make an emergency visit to a specialist because he was bleeding and oozing mucus from his nose really bad. Blood was pouring out and it was really scary because it wasn't stopping. They ended up keeping him over night and did a CT scan the next day. When they finally called they told me it was cancer....so they sent a biopsy tissue sample to the lab to determine the type of cancer. I was busted up pretty bad and they made it sound like there was little hope. The biopsy results came back a few days later inconclusive with their findings. I brought him back for another biopsy and waited 2 more days. On the 3rd day they called me back and confirmed it is NOT cancer. I was so relieved and happy I can't even explain. The diagnosis is Rhinitis which he is now being treated for. All in all I spent over $5,000 between going to multiple vets, specialists etc. All of them were wrong and so quick to suggest it was cancer. 3 oncologists validated their findings yet all of them were wrong. I can't express how upsetting all of this was to me yet I cannot be upset, I have my boy, he is here by my side as I type this. I just wanted to share and in case anyone else ever has a dog who develops these symptoms, have them check for Rhinitis before you spend thousands of dollars but most importantly be positive and realize that miracles do happen. If I had listened to them, they would have convinced me that he had cancer and put him down so he wouldn't be "suffering".... I am a happy man with mans best friend by my side still!

I thoroughly relate to your distress.  I've been distraught more than once as a result of misdiagnoses and wrong indications regarding pets - some with silver linings, some rather costly, a few ending poorly.  As pets develop personalities they become thoroughly entrenched and unique as any family member might be.  I am happy for you and Sabaka that his treatment is simple and he is on his way to recovery.

I'm glad your dog is ok. It sucks to lose a dog, even worse when a vet is at fault. I've got 3 dogs myself and would probably end up in jail for what I would have done to the vets that gave a wrong diagnosis.

Speaking of that, texan, my sister did lose her pure breed retriever, cuz the vet told them his cancer was not cancer, and at the time could have been treated. 10 grand later the dog died.

That's horrible. Incorrect daignosis' are bad both ways. They either kill all your hope or give you hope when there is none. Second and third opinions are very important. A dog I had growing up was diagnosed with cancer and the vet wanted to put her down before we could leave. It took an act of violence to get her out of there alive, but 3 different vets told us she didn't have cancer and she made it another 14 years. The vet tried to sue me over the incident but lost, a jury decided I did what I had to do to save my animal. The courts refused to press criminal charges against me, but did decide to investigate a few cases where that vet had put down police animals. He left town as soon as they suggested that.

I feel for ya buddy. We just put one of our cats down last weekend. 14 years she was with us. Last few weeks she's been lethargic, can't hold food down, looked like she hurting. Kidney failure, we said good bye to her last Saturday. It definitely ain't easy.

Put down a golden  few years ago from cancer, 7 years old.

Either way when it's time to put an animal down its not a question.

You will know when they are suffering to that point.

It's amazing how far off the mark they can be...Ever seen a person lose their cool because their car wasn't properly diagnosed? Ever see them act like that at the doctor when they are wrong and rip them off? Oh the world we live in. I'm just happy I got my buddy back!

Four times i had a mis-diagnose on my engine! Four hacks couldnt get it right. Then Vile Z., put a stop to that nonsense.

I can only imagine the pain and anger of that happening to man's best friend.

Also, a good friend of mine lost his prize bird dog, a viszla to cancer, after 8k in vet bills.

My dentist also lost a pure bred viszla from a tick bite, died in his arms, he hasnt cried since he was a kid. Doesnt even like to talk about it.

I've beat the feces out of 3 doctors. And won in court after. I can't take pain pills, they put me in more pain for some reason, but after telling these doctors repeatedly that I can't take pain pills, they all came right back with a prescription for them. I'm not paying some idiot to ignore everything I say, then try to diagnose a problem where what I say matters. I finally found a decent Doctor, but decent vets are another story.

I have gone off on mechanics too. One tried to sell my girlfriend front cv axles for her Camaro. I trashed him and his shop. Although, having turned wrenches since my teens, I understand that sometimes one problem will hide another.

Anger issues, LOL.

Definitely  worse when it's deliberate or complacent.

Is it an anger issue or justice? How often to doctors get fired or beaten up for making bad calls? In my opinion, not nearly often enough. Even more so when they do something that you tell them is bad for you, and you have the medical records to back it up. The ones I whooped thought that their 10 years of school made them better than everyone else. The crooked mechanic was just a crook. When the cops got there to arrest me, they found his meth lab and lost all interest in me. Dude had something like 10 lbs of stuff sitting there, using his shop to launder money, and still felt the need to rob people. I mean really, front cv's on a Camaro? And he tried to lie to my face about it. He didn't get half of what he deserved. That's not an anger issue, it's getting justice. Some people will spend $30k in court trying to get back a grand, but not me. But, I live in a small town where people still do things the old way. Handle it yourself first, don't waste time and money getting others involved.
