It's not silly, it's downright criminal. The epa is one of the most useless parts of our government, and one that has repeatedly done more damage than good.

We need to stop letting the government decide what is and what isn't good for us. Warn, offer protection etc but stop trying to control people. People keep voting for the same old story tellers. It's nice to see some shake up happening.

Does anyone know if this will effect 75 and below vehicles?  Since this law basically existed since 1976.

I guess I need more information on this subject.

Something doesn't seem right with this.

Only congress has the power to make something illegal. I'm not sure how one of the alphabet soup agencies can just decree something illegal without writ law. Even with the most broad interpretation of the clean air act I still don't see how it can affect personally owned vehicles operated on private property. What do they consider modified? What do they consider conversion? What do they consider a race car?

Chevrolet sells a new Camaro "body in white". It is basically a current production body shell sold for modifying into a race car. Then there are the kit cars...... Too many questions that need answers.

I agree! And i wont discuss politics on this site, way too many opinions. Then again, it appears most of us are to the right.

Anyway, it also appears that trump is the only one thats going to come in and kick over some tables! Just sayin...

I'm a street racer from way back, still doing it too. My car is a "street car" not a race car :).

And I just wanted to add, screw the EPA and their self righteous policies. The cash for clunkers mess was, at it's core, just another way for huge corporations to buy pollution credits at the expense of cool old iron.

i think the epa is doing a job that will help save our air. theres a reason why china's air is bad compared to ours. as much as i love these old trucks im glad someone stepped up and said he we need this, now if the epa was to say you cant drive your old truck anymore cause of how its bad for the ozone. then yes i would have a problem with it. but this law would effect my mud truck since it was a "on-road" truck at one point. but how would they determine if the "performance" parts are for my mud trucks 350 or a tube chassis with a 350 cart that i made?

Agreed, but in my mind the real problem isn't not will it ever be competition vehicles. Most of those run very efficiently as efficiency=power, in fact, I have my turbo truck cruising at a 15-15.7:1 air fuel ratio, which would put the emissions on oar with most modern trucks. I think the real culprits on pollution are in the manufacturing business. There are a lot of regulations in place, but they are still allowed to buy pollution credits which let's them circumvent existing regulations. China's air is definatley worse than ours, but it seems silly to me to break it down to each country's air, when in reality it's earths air. The wind blows all directions, and we will eventually breathe it as well. I guess the short version is that I believe the real soloution would be to introduce globally enforceable policies that apply everywhere with no option to buy you way out of it. It seems to me that th U.S. Is trying to carry the weight of the whole world, and sending American manufacturing by the wayside in the process. Just my $.02.

i think the epa is doing a job that will help save our air.

I tend not to see it that way. To me, they are crooked and bought off by the real polluters. Why else would they be going after the segment that does less than 1% of the polluting? The percentage of performance enhanced vehicles on the road is very small, and the percentage of pollution caused by vehicles is also pretty small. A small clean up in the airline industry would make more of a difference than a 50% reduction in automotive pollution.

didnt necessarily mean all of china's air is bad but in the citys like Beijing for the olympics. they had to shut down most the factories to clean the air for the Olympics. this is why scrap metal prices went so high

Some of the problems i have are:

1) As ST pointed out this is only a VERY small percentage of "pollution."   AND as you know a lot of race cars don't even run on gas--- a lot run on alcohol.

2) Why is racing less "legitimate" from other forms of use?   For example a few weeks ago i went to the movies with friends.  On top of that we did not carpool.  How is my going to see a movie more legitimate and more rightfully polluting than someone on a dirt track or at a dragstrip etc.

For that matter, why is my going to work more legitimate when you consider most races have money at stake?

What the fedgov really doesn't like is independent people

And most racers and car builders / fabricators are independent people

Self sufficient people don't need or want more govt
Which the opposite of what the govt wants

The fedgov wants as many people as possible dependent on their handout entitlement vote buying programs

Same reason they don't want people to own guns
They'd much rather those people be dependent on the govt to protect them.
