Door Panel Attachment
« on: November 06, 2005, 06:16:00 pm »
The interior door panels on the 85 Silverado I just got are about to fall off.  Most of the screws and the "nuts" that pop into the door skin are missing.  Does anyone know where I can get some of these without having to buy the entire door panel?  Thanks.

Junkyard, or if you have the old ones any good auto parts store will have or be able to get them for you.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Like Blazin said, the good ole junkyard.  If you are near a big city, i am sure you would be pretty close to a large wrecking yard.  I love walking thru the one I have near me just to see what's out there.  I also take things off of the old vechicles just to see how they are attached.
You could also go to www. competitor.com  (1 -800   truck) Order a catalog that covers your truck.....they have everything.

The easiest place to find them is in the help section of a major auto store.  There are supposed to be 4 screws running across the bottom, one in the handle pocket and the weather stripping/lip at the top that actually hold it on though.  The plastic clips on the side only hold the sides.

I don't have the truck with me tonight as I've got a fellow rebuilding the carb for me.  I'll check it out tomorrow, but I could swear the 4 screws running across the bottom actually screwed into a plastic nut that you have to push into the 4 square holes I'm seeing along the bottom edge.  However, I don't remember and may be wrong, I'll check it out tomorrow when I get the truck back.  I've got  's catalog, and have ordered quite a lot from them already.  They don't have what I was describing though.  I'm having a time trying to get everything "tightened" up on this truck though.  The rattles are deafening when I hit bumps or go over tracks.  I'm just trying to eliminate them one at a time.  One day...

Maybe I missunderstood what you were asking.  There are plastic capture nuts that insert into the door.  Other than the HELP! section, I am not sure where to get it from.

Yea, I probably wasn't too clear on what I was talking about.  So thats what you call them, capture nuts.  I'm hoping there is at least one left in the door so I can take it with me when I go hunting for some to show what I'm talking about.  I appreciate your help.
