Changing speedo cable

Changing the speedo cable tomorrow, any tips? I hope there are no brackets halfway along or anything like that?

WHEN I CHANGED MINE, IT UNSCREWS AT THE TRANS. THERE IS A MOUNTING ON THE FRAME THAT THE CABLE GOES THROUGH.
AND THERE IS A SPRING CLIP THAT HOLDS SPEEDO  CABLE  TO DASH  CLOCKS

Good news- the cable is fine, I don't need to change it after all

Bad news- it's the speedo itself that's knackered, it's seized up. D'oh!

Now's your chance to install a fancy speedo. Be it a 100MPH speedo, speedo with tripometer, etc.
Myself? Having a diesel, I chose a speedo with tripometer.

My speedo is 100mph already, does that make it a fancy one? If I was going to change it, I'd get a 60mph one, that would be plenty for me...

North Hollywood Speedometer rebuilds the original units.  They'll also restore the appearance if you need it.  I just had mine mechanically restored for $180 plus shipping.   Works like new.  Just be sure to pack it to them carefully since the little needle snaps off if a heavy gust of wind hits it.  Plus, if you use the original speedo, you won't have the fuss of setting up the new one.

Cleaned the speedo out with carb cleaner, then gave it a lube with WD40. Re-installed, it worked for twenty minutes then stopped again.
Looks like I'm going to have to take it apart and do it properly!

North Hollywood will be the last resort, what with me being in the UK, but thanks for the tip it's good to know such places exist
