C10 drop

Hi, my name is Delfino. Im new to this forum, and was looking to get some help. lm looking forward to lowering my 1981 SWB C10 during the summer and I want some input, I currently have it sitting on 22" wheels. I would like to at least get a 2"/4" drop with just springs and hanger / shackles. But was also wondering if the 3"/5" with spindles and flip kit is possible with out a C-notch? What do you guys recommend on drop, brand, and products? TIA.

I'm looking at the  same basic project. So far my thought process has lead me to the conclusion that a 2-1/2 front and 4 rear would preserve the factory ride quality. That's more important to me than going lower. McGaugheys seem to have an inexpensive kit. For just under  $1000 you can get it all plus 13" brakes.

I'm interested in feedback as well.

Yeah, i just put in new brake components so I'm just looking to lower it right now. And i want to keep the vehicle level and with the same ride quality. So im guessing the 2/4 will do it without the need of a c-notch

You should be good with a 2/4 drop. I have a 5/7 drop and still haven't notched the frame. It's close but haven't had it hit unless I go over a speed bump too fast.

Does yours grind on the wheels/body or does it have enough clearance, and is there a brand you recommend?

There is plenty of clearance. I have ran stock 15" rallys and Camaro SS factory 20s with 1.75 adapters. Now the size tire matters. I think I was running 27" tall tires and the passenger front tire would rub the inner fender on bumps. I'm sure if I had better drop shocks it wouldn't happen. I'm pretty sure the front shocks I have are crap.

I would stick with McGaughys, CPP, belltech, djm, and I have heard western chassis is good to go.

Nice, i currently have 22" and its measuring 29" at the tire the fender itself is at 32 3/4" so if i was to get the 2"/4" drop it will probably rub on bad road. I guess i can get smaller wheels rights??? Or do you think it'll be fine as it is + the drop?

It depends on what the width and offset of the wheel is. If it has too much negative offset it will be too close to the fender lip. Do you know the specs on those 22's?

Dont know the specs actually. But it probably wont since right now it actually has about 1 1/2" of clearance from the tire side wall

And a little rubbing isn't going to hurt anything
Easiest way is to find a truck you like at a cruise in or show and quiz the owner about the mods

I've looked those over pretty closely.  McGaughys seems to be the least costly.  Is there any benefit to paying more for the other brands?

As far as I know they come with similar components and are pretty equal in quality.

With those kind of wheels and tires, a 4/6 would probably look great.
