Technical question...

What is the reason for engine bolts and the like, to be tightened to a specific torque, such as an intake manifold, heads, pumps, carb, valve covers,,ect. ?
Is it for proper sealing purposes, or is there more to it?

A lot of torques are because if all the bolts are not the same tightness the part that the bolts are holding will warp and leak. Another reason is the bolts will not come loose after time too.

Size of bolt, grade of bolt, material of component(s), gasket.
Environment of said component.
Uniform tightening, warping

Thread count per inch also affects torque spec.
