TH350 torque converter - JEGS

Anyone have any input on JEGS model converters? I just ordered a 3000 stall converter from JEGS, it was a great price, I have a big cam sbc 350 on my c10, I believe I have a tranny front seal leak and my converter looks old, tired and rusty. I figured time for an upgrade while I'm in there!

i dont really know a lot about stalls but 3k seams really big for just a cam. imo its too big. even with 4.10 ratio you wont lock up the tc unless youre going over 60 and 3.73 youll have to be going 65. is this a dd or a truck just for the strip?

This is my dd, the engine is a 3t0 with a th350 from a late 60s corvette.  It has an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold paired with a Edelbrock 600 carb. I'm not sure of the cam specs but it pretty lopey. Mid to high rpm power is there but the initial acceleration is very sluggish. I've read that stock converterso have a stall speed in the 1200 - 1400 range.

Adding a 3000 rpm stall isn't going to improve throttle response if that's what you're looking for. It may help with launch and break away torque but for a dd? I doubt you will be happy especially from the sounds of your setup.

Yeah, not really looking for big gains, I have a leak at the tranny front seal, or converter. It looks old and tired so now is the time to replace the converter. Not expecting night and day difference but it's better than the old rusty stock one!

Thanks for the reply guys, I will be looking into a milder converter! Since this is my DD I should get something a bit more manageable!

I'm considering the B&M Tork Master 2000. I think it may agree more with my setup.

stock is around 1400 and is a good replacement. if you want it to slip a little bit so you get into your power range faster get a 1800-2000

Did you talk with the suppliers?

What is your cam?  What are your gears?

My truck has 231°@050" 108°LSA, 3.73 gears, TH350, and 28" tires.  The converter and cam companies recommended a 2500 for me, which I bought and enjoy for the most part.

I ran it with 3.07 gears initially, but with those gears I was cruising on the highway below the stall speed, and below the cam's power range.  The whole everything works together as a package.  If you don't need more stall, don't get more stall.

What size is your cam?

I have a 3.55 rear end. I Unfortunately don't know the size of the cam, guy I bought it from didn't know the exact specs, said it was his dad's project. I haven't spoken with any of the suppliers, mainly because I really don't know the specs of the cam so idk if it would do me any good.

How well does it idle in gear?  Mine I had to set the idle high enough that it would try and creep at a light when in gear.

What kind of idle vacuum do you have in gear?  Mine is about 8inHg.

How choppy does it sound?

Skinny, my truck sounds just like yours, Idle is alright in gear but jumps up in park. I've been doing a lot of reading and I'll be doing some distributor, vacuum can and timing tinkering this coming week. It seems my Initial timing may need to be advanced a bit because of the cam. I'm sure that is producing a lower vacuum as well, I'll be measuring that soon too.

With the stock converter and this cam, it idled at 850 in park, and dropped to 550 in gear.

I run 20° base timing, manifold vacuum advance limited to 12°, and 16° mechanical advance.  Compression is around 10.9:1.
