Rear slider
« on: August 25, 2016, 11:32:08 pm »
Hey Guys
Got a 84 GMC K2500, no AC.  Would like to swap out the factory rear fixed window with a slider.  However my glass guy has warned me all the sliders made today are Chinese junk.

So anyone buy and install one recently?

I haven't but the sad fact is 95% of everything these days are Chinese made junk. I would suggest looking at salvage yards or maybe craigslist to find an older one if your worried.
BTW I installed a slider out of a wrecked k10 and LOVE it, best thing I could have done for summer besides installing AC.

I got a good aftermarket one with tinted glass. It was a nice upgrade from the factory unit which are rarely tight or latch securely. Just don't get a cheap one. What isn't made in China these days?

I know for a fact that we can still get in a Pilkington Tinted aftermarket slider for my truck from my work.  Pilkington is not a cheap chinese brand.  I believe the part # is a DB90007YPY then i think they add PK1 on to the end of the number if its from Pilkington.  I can double check later today if I have time, alas I just bought a home so am not at work today.

My latch is pretty tight on my slider but I still didn't trust it to keep anyone out so I cut some thin strips of wood that fit in the slider channel. You can not get the windows open when there in there and they are easy to get in and out.

I'm in the same boat as you, OP. I'm rebuilding my truck from the frame up and I really want the OE silver/aluminum slider instead of my back glass. Just make sure if you get one you get the rubber too.

None of the replacement/aftermarket ones I have found look like the original ones, I do not want a black slider but you may be different.
