Sound deadener
« on: August 26, 2016, 04:20:45 pm »
Any tips on what to use for sound deadener? I don't have a radio right now in the truck so that's not the issue. It's all road noise, engine noise. There's no insulation inside the truck right now but I'm looking for stuff that has worked well for u guys before I decide what to buy. Thanks in advance.

I used Dynamat. Covered the floor, the roof, and inside the doors. Made a huge difference.

Thanks, I figured Dynamat was the way to go but didn't kno if cheaper versions were worth messing with. I plan on doing the whole floor, inside the doors & the firewall. How much did u need?

This is the (very effective) "poor man's dynamat"   ;D

Used it on the inside of my doors and it really knocked down the noise.

Worked well for me.

If you Google Dynamat and Peel & Seal you will see a lot of conversation on it.  As far as me, I'm not paying for Dynamat, that's for sure.

I applied a few strips to the inside of the outer door skin and the difference was pretty noticeable, and I didn't even completely cover it.

Happy to help!

Be sure you get it where you want it before it goes down, because it sure isn't coming back off easily!

Ill second this, stuff works great and is cheap. If it wasnt suggested, I would used this to help seal between each layer you put side by side. it will look clean and professional.

Peel and Seal is an asphalt-based product and as such is really a poor choice for interior sound deadening!  Is it cheap?  Yes it is!  Will it stink-up your interior?  Yes it will!  Will it dry-out and become brittle, lose its effectiveness and lose its adhesion with time and heat?  Yes it will!

B-quiet is a good Butyl rubber based sound deadener that is comparable to Dynamat at a lower cost.  Do some reading about asphalt-based sound deadener and make your own choice, but it really is not a good choice for the interior of your ride.

Peel and seal is asphalt based, but is does not stink or lose adhesion in the heat. There are thousands of guys in Texas that use this material or one similar from Home Depot on these trucks all the time. No complaints about it. just like anything else, preparation is key when installing this.

Search mrwhitels1 on YouTube. He uses something I can't recall bit doesn't have stink or anything. Go watch his video. You will get a lot of info from it.
