SES Light

I have a 1987 R10 2wd with a 305 TBI with 165,00 miles. I am trying to figure out why I get the SES light on after I have driven my truck for about 25-30 minutes. Sometimes it will cause it to run rough and other times it will be fine, but every time I get to where I am going and cut it off it will reset and be gone. I have no issues with power or any kind of smoke, just trying to figure it out without changing a bunch of parts and spending money that I do not have.

Do you have access to a laptop?  You really don't need much of a laptop to run TunerPro RT or WinALDL.  They will run under Windows XP.
You can still buy surplussed Dell 620/630 or Dell 820/830 laptops running Windows XP that are capable of Assembly Line Diagnostic Link communication for around $100. They use $50 Lithium Ion batteries that are plentiful and easy to find. Several brand specific and generic OBD II packages will even run under XP.  You just need a USB 2.0 port and the interface module.

Plugging into the ALDL port when the SES lights and listening to the data while the error is still present is the easiest way to get a picture of what's going on.

Does that work when the codes are not persisting through an ignition cycle?

Most codes are not volatile and should store in memory.

This has been detailed here and across the internet countless times. There's no need for every time someone asks a question to go into "GREAT DETAIL" and even though some of us are/were mechanics you don't need to be to use a paper clip. If you are so inclined to fix it yourself you will put forth a little effort and either ask for more detail or use the search function. So Come On, is it really necessary that we literally spoon feed? This took 30 seconds of effort:

And i'm a classic example of that, i end up having to study books, this forum, and watch videos to figure out how to do things. Usually i panic and go crying to VZ, then after about 50 texts he gives me the silent treatment (lol) and thats when i know its time to buck up and figure things out, and i thank him for that.
