True dual exhaust system on 84 C10

Can I run a true dual header back exhaust system on my Chevy C10 that has a 700r4 transmission? It has a y pipe now that runs down the driver side and dual tailpipes after the muffler

Sure. Unless you have smog testing then it depends on your state's smog requirements.

Does the stock 700r4 crossmember cause any clearance issues, I've seen some cases where a new crossmember has to be installed? I don't know if that's the case for my example

I have a 700 in my 73 and the stock crossmember. Any competent exhaust shop should be able to install pipes without interfering with anything.

You can but why bother? They are an emissions item, nothing else. I wouldn't bother putting them back in unless they were required. You would be lucky to ever see a noticeable difference in engine performance. If it's not required by law, I would toss it.

its a big fine for a shop to remove cats and not replace them. doesnt have to be oem but federal law says if it came from the factory then it has to be there. you can find shops that will do this, and you can do it yourself. i know im my state/s maryland and delaware they dont test emissions depending on your county but they will do a visual check at the least. if you get pulled over for having a truck too loud they can issue you an inspection ticket which means you have to get your truck inspected. you can add hi flow cats and they will pass in most states

But only if the area the vehicle is registered in requires the emissions equipment to remain intact and functional. And the legal requirements very dependent on the year of the vehicle. Best thing to do is check the emissions requirements for the area your truck is registered in.

Emissions requirements are generally dependent on the area of registration. Like in my county and most in California, all factory emissions equipment are required on all vehicles 1976 to present that are registered for on public road use. But there are a few counties that don't have any requirements and one county that you must pass once when you register initially but any registrations after that don't require any type of emissions testing. New vehicles are smog exempt for the first couple years after purchase. But something such as Diesel Exhaust Fluid is required on all vehicles in all 50 states 2011 (I think) and newer regardless of individual area requirements.

If your worried about it, just check your areas requirements, it's that easy, then you know what you can and can't do. Heck you could call a reputable smog shop in the area and ask what the requirements are.

Thanks for all the responses everyone, I might not even bother with the catalytic converter. I live in Oklahoma, so no cats is probably common haha

most time if you keep the noise down then cops wont even bother you. if you draw attention to yourself with noise or spinning tires or acting a fool thats when they will find every little thing wrong
