Leaves and debris

Well I'm in the final stages before my truck goes to the painter.  After removing the grill between the hood and windshield I was surprised to find a build up of leaves and debris.  I'm thinking of adding some type of screen material underneath it before I reinstall it after paint.

Thoughts?

Thanks Blazin.  Not sure if you checked out the link to my photos but there is a black plastic one there (last photo shows debris built up at bottom of pic).

You can't see the pictures unless you are a member.

If you want to close it off more, it will make it difficult to clean out later.  The cowl drains from this point.  You can possible put some window screen and attach it to the underside of the black plastic piece, but I would still want the ability to clean this area out as this is one area where they are prone to rot.

I think that one black screen is all you are supposed to have.  You can always fabricate something.

there is no way to keep debris from getting below the metal cowl panel.  You just have to keep it clean when you wash it...

I've got some time before it goes back on so will pay a visit to the local Home Depot to get some ideas for fabricating something?  

If that fails, will resort to Roundline's suggestion although I'll try to first grind down some "nubs" that slotted into the cab.  Because these "nubs" are about a inch long I couldn't see any way of removing the cowl until I removed my hood.  This should allow me to remove the cowl easily to clean out debris.

I'll have to check color code tonight and get back to you.  BTW, my preference is to go with a two tone paint job (orginal blue on grey to match wheels).

NOT a good idea.  Those "nubs" are studs that secure the rear portion of the cowl panel down.  If you cut them it will be flopping around everywhere.  To properly remove the cowl panel you need to remove the wiper arms then remove the small screws securing the front of the panel to the truck.  Then it will lift off.

Does anyone have a part# for the nubs mentioned above?  I pulled the cowl and screen off today to clean underneath and most of them broke off due their age and being very brittle.  I have been searching online but have not had any luck.  Thanks.

NO, PN, but you might can call the dealership.  Them having it though would be the kicker.  I would source some off a salvage.
