89-91 suburban grille w/ 94-98 headlights
« on: October 29, 2006, 06:19:00 pm »
So I finally got all my parts today, the main one infact. So i get home with the core support and try and get my 94-98 headlights to work. I have no idea how this has been done, the brackets on the lights are to big and make the light stick way out and the adjustment bolts dont clear the top of the support. Has anyone seen this done or know where to start? Here are some pics

I think you will find that those are not 94 - 98 lights on those trucks in the pics. 88 - 91 1 tons, Burbs, & Blazers all used that headlight set up as they retained the old body style, but had more modern lights.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

no on the 89=91 burbans/crew cabs/blazers they had dual headlights with a bar seperating them, very similar to those years trucks. the burban i took that off of today looked just like this truck. i57.photobucket.com/album...ckburb.jpg
then some how they get this headlight to fit

my friend put those headlights in that grill on his 87 pro street, looks bad @#%$.
He had to fab something up for it.
I'll have to ask him exactly what he did.
I just scored a 91 burb grill/support and everything from a dude in NC for $150...
gonna be a good xmas project.

I called him today, but he was driving to fire truck, I'll call him back tomorrow and see what he says...
Also, I'll see if he can send me some pics.

One of the popular mods for these trucks is to use 87-98 Chevy Celebrity headlights in place of the individual buckets.  It will require some headlight bucket trimming.

I am sure the ones listed above will require something very simular.

All of these are R/V series to get the old bodystyle with Silverado trim level.

And this is why headlights for the Celebrity are so expensive used (30-40-50 and up...EACH!)  I have a pair plus an extra right one, and a Celebrity sitting in the back yard waiting to be stripped.  I can buy a whole abandoned/impounded Celebrity for what some eBay sellers want for 2 headlights and an owner's manual!  I can't wait to start listing that stuff.

To truly give you the right scoop on these front ends, I found all the info I needed by looking at this website.  The picture of the blue truck with the 89-91 quad headlight is what came on the 89-91 suburban and blazer.  There was a single headlight version for the same years.  The core supports are different, but will bolt to any of the 73-87 frames.  I am in the process of converting my 78 to the 89-91 quad grille.  Here is an article with pics showing a swap.

and another one.

Hope this helps.

I have a '93 Chevy with a '98 grille/light upgrade kit on it which I bought from U.S. Auto Parts (advertised in Truckin' Magazine).  The grille looks so much better but the headlights don't sit quite right in it.  Overall, I am pleased with it but had to have my body shop do the work because it was over my head.  I understand it was a pain in the :(.  I think I have a pic that I can try to get on here.
Actually, I'm not sure how to get it on here but here's my Yahoo page with a pic in the photos.
