O2 Sensor?

Not sure if I'm in the right spot but here goes. I bought my 87 R30 quite a few years ago. It has a big block with headers. While getting it ready to be driven again I noticed a bung welded into the exhaust with an o2 sensor with a spliced wire.I thought well that's the check engine light then. I bought a new sensor and the wire is too short which would now explain the extension. What's the correct way to make this repair? I was told you should never extend the wire in the sensor side.

You can splice it but make sure it is a sealed tight connection. Any added resistance to the wire will send false data.

You do not want to block the area where the lead exits the sensor body.

When you say sealed and tight do you mean solder and heat shrink or is that a no no?

Yes just clean your solder joints before you heat shrink it. 60/40 Rosin core
