Fuel gauge not working

I have had it a relatively short while and fuel gauge has never worked asking for ideas as to where to start testing so I can fix the problem

What is year and model? Depends on symptom. Describe not working, in as much detail as possible without writing a book.....haha

Pop the sending unit wire off and view the gauge with the key on. it should swing past full. Ground the wire with the key on and it should swing past E.
