Thanks BD for the picture of the spring loaded flow control valve assembly.
So to back up...
The hose I took off the truck was the wrong hose. It was for a 1975 Jimmy and the power steering pump it was hooked to had the correct style hydraulic coupling for the 1975 Jimmy.
I'm not at the shop right now so can't take a picture of the old hose but suffice to say, the steering gear box side of the hose looks nothing like the new hose that NAPA part numbers says fits my truck.
I installed a new power steering pump with the correct hydraulic fitting for the new hose.
So it's understandable the gear box end of the new power steering hose looks different than the hose that came off of it. While the hose that came off was the wrong hose, I don't remember it leaking at the gear box point of attachment.
So my questions and quandary is, before I install this new hose, that by all reasoning should be the correct hose for the steering gearbox, (assuming the previous owner didn't put a different steering gearbox onto this truck), I just wasn't sure if the smaller end of the hose was going to fit into the orifice on the gear box?
It looks like it's going to get mashed and smashed unless "something gives". And it looks like with the picture BD shared shows a spring loaded component and when I install the hose, the portion of the hose I drew a green box around is going to fit in and depress the spring loaded flow control valve.
If this is so, then I'm good to go.
What I didn't want to do was take a brand new hose and install it only to find out something was wrong and it smashed the end of the tip.

The end of the hose with the green box around it looks like it needs to fit into a similar size opening?

In this picture, the o-ring will fit into the area surrounded by the purple circles and the end of the hose shown above with the green box around it will fit DOWN into the area surrounded by the green circles and in so doing, depress this component about a quarter of an inch?

Here I've cropped out the pertinent portion and rotated it to show how it would look in the steering gear box and when the hose is attached the portion of the hose with the green box drawn around it will touch down on the portion of the valve with the green box drawn around it.

Does the above make sense and sound right?
If so - I'll attach the hose and fire up the truck and cross my fingers all is right and there are no leaks.
