Figured I'd ask here, would be easier than searching in the engine bay

the only way to know for sure is looking in your engine bay. look for the stamped numbers on the block behind the alternator. the casting numbers will tell you info also but the stamped numbers will tell you more detail. but as far as i know theres no way to see if its the original block but the casting and stamped numbers can tell you what years that engine was made and what vehicle it may be found in and the engine size.

So behind the alternator, on thx. My 85 has 350 and 700r and was just wondering if the truck came that way. I guess I don't care if they are the exact ones.

it should have came like that. by the 80s gm was trying to get as much mpg as they could. the 700r4 came out in 82 and was pretty standard in all ½ tons. the engine choices were either a 6 cylinder (4.3) or the 305 (5.0) or the 350 (5.7) or the diesel (6.2).
also try to get in standard practice of including the year, make, model, drivetrain configuration at a MINIMUM and all applicable info that is relative to the question. This will help everyone here help you better if we know what you are working on and what your end goal is. right now im only guessing youre talking about a ½ ton 4x2

Pretty sure a 305 was the largest displacement gas engine available in a 1/2 ton truck in 1985

im pretty sure the 350 was offered in the ½ tons but it was a hard to find item due to trying to get the most MPGs

My Canadian made 1986 C10 came with a 350 and TH400 from factory. I realize that this was not the norm though

so there you have it, all US trucks but CA Emissions got three different engine options 4.3, 5.0 and the 6.2. CA trucks could have 4.3, 5.0, 6.2 and the 5.7. if it had the 5.7 ir was the 6100 GVWR page 22
