Question regarding removing AC
« on: August 01, 2017, 01:52:42 am »
I bought a 74 C10 1/2 ton with non working ac and it soon developed a leak in the heater core. I removed the evaporator (not the condensor, sorry) and all the ac hardware on the firewall to get the heater core out and replaced. I have now reassembled without the evaporator, but the heater vents require vacuum to operate. The vacuum tank on the passenger side firewall currently has no vacuum supply. What can I do to get a minimally working heater and defroster without using vacuum?

Do you mean you reassembled it and left out the evaporator core? Why do you want it to operate without vacuum? If you removed the Evaporator you can still connect the vacuum hoses.

*PS this topic was split as it had no relevance to the thread it was posted in.

On my 74 C10, I have removed all the ac hardware that was on the firewall including the evaporator. I also bought the ac delete unit for the firewall, to route the air from the fan into the heater unit under the dash. Unlike pickups without ac, the vents under the dash, operate using vacuum. Someone before I bought the truck, disconnected the vacuum supply from the resevoir on the firewall (passenger side). If I must use vacuum, anyone know where to hook a vacuum line for the resevoir? Better yet, how can I use the heater/defroster without vacuum? Thanks for your help. I'll remove the condensor next once I get the rest of the work done.
