Rebuilt motor shop

A few years ago I was looking for a 455 for my Buick and ran across a shop out of Illinios or Indiana that buys, rebuilds and stores everything from lawn mower engines to CAT power plants.
For the life of me I can't find it or know the name of the place, I'm looking for a 400 small block.
In the off chance someone has any idea where this place is I would greatly appreciate it. They had decent prices, the quoted me $500 delivered for a Buick 455.

Could you be referring to Jasper Engines out of Jasper IN.  I think that is how they first began.  Now they are a pretty large player.  Sherwin-Williams paint supplies their engine paints

It's easy for chevy fans, but, i wonder IF you need, for example, a 307 Oldsmobile, or any Olds engine for that matter.   What do you do?

Well a 307 Olds is a boat anchor, so you upgrade. About 15 years ago, we took the 307 out of my buddies Hurst Olds and I built him an Olds 350 fitted with 425 pistons.

Would the service manual be good enough to where a machine shop would know how/where/and what specs to machine it to?

Well I would hope that by today people know the term "google it" but aside from that, if your machine shop isn't competent enough to properly rebuild an Olds 350 they should probably hang it up. Most engine builders belong to AERA and the like where tech specs can easily be found if you do not have them for whatever reason.
