fuel problems??
« on: October 21, 2006, 12:12:00 pm »
okay i was driving home and started to go up a hill and the engine started to become bogged down and wanted to die, so i let off the gas and it ran a little better, i managed to get up the hill and pull off the road, then when i put it in neutral it ran fine but accelerated not so well. put it in gear then same thing! so replaced fuel filter, then engine didnt even start, so took off fuel line and cranked it to see if i was gettin fuel. which i wasnt so replaced fuel pump, still doesnt work. so i bypassed the valve to select tanks, and cant start it! so the question is which line goes from the left fuel tank into the fuelpump? there is a large rubber line, a smaller rubber line, and the hard line to the carburetor. so which do i need to start a suction in?? i know this is long but i need the help

You can prime it if you just pour a little fuel in the line before the pump.

I had the exact same thing happen to me as in the first post. I have an 81 350 dual tank. But the bogging was intermittent only uphill but it wouldn't happen all the time, I changed the fuel filter in the summer but it didn't help. Lately it had not done it at all and was running good. I went to start it the other day and it wouldn't go. I tested the cap and coil it was all good so I poured fuel down the carb and it started. So I changed the fuel pump and now I have no flow to the carb. Is there a way to prime it or should I dig deeper. Like bypass the dual tank valve (only one tank works anyway). The pump has a return line on the bottom I assume it is the small line and the fat one is the supply is that right? All of the instructions say when you change the fuel pump you just start it up and check for leaks. But I can't get it to flow. I poured more fuel down the carb to get it to start so the push rod would move faster and hopefully flow some gas in the pump. Also I know I have gas in the tank I had a 1/4 tank and I have since put 20 liters in it also. I also tryed to switch the dual tank switch back and forth in case it got switched by accident. Sorry for the long post but I am very frustrated:(
