It shouldn't wiggle at all.  It won't be solid as metal either, remember, it is on rubber pads bolted to the crossmember. With great force, i would guess you could shift it over a half inch but it comes right back into position.

You may need to replace your tranny mount.  I had to one time.  I couldn't figure out why when I go fast around a right turn a thud, thud, thud,...(fast repitition) sound loudly appeared. It would only do that with fast right turns.

I finally looked under the truck to find out that the front yoke/ujoints were hitting the heat shield of the catalytic converter--which was to the left of the yoke.  When the centrifugal force of the vehicle shifted the tranny/driveshaft towards the heat shield, it would rub it until I straightened the truck up again.   Culprit?  Tranny mounts.  The tranny was just sitting on top of the crossmember basically. The rubber had worn around the two little bolts that hold the rubber on the mount.  The mounts are cheap and any good auto parts place will have them.

Not tough.  I may be wrong, it has been a while, but I think you just unbolt the existing mount from the crossmember, take a jack and raise the tail of the tranny a little to remove and replace the mounts (dont raise too much, fan of engine could go into the radiator). I dont think i had to remove the crossmember while supporting the trans.
