Success!  Nice long drive today.

Next up is the AC unit. I’ve been watching YouTube, I’m dangerous!

I’m thinking about bringing the 2” lift back to stock.  The runner boards look like a big pain to install.  Put them on the list with the black paint.

Alright, got my lines crimped and installed.

Got rental ac tools (brand new), gauges and vacuum pump.  Pump only brings gauges to -26 psi, should be closer to -30.  Don’t know if it’s pump or gauges.  Looking online, -26 has boiling point over 100F, which is too high to evacuate Vapor. But the pump steamed at first like it was pulling moisture out. Anyways…

Discovered that auto parts stores can no longer sell refrigerant in out state.  Can still mail order it.

System pumps to -26. Held overnight, no leaks!

Removed gauges, one valve leaks. Argh, need to replace that hose.  At least I know what I’m doing.

Factory routing the hoses, or "hiding" them a bit?

I don’t like my hose routing. Suggestions?  I hid electrical in the fender. I need better pictures.

Can you follow the discharge line with your suction line, and route them closer to the block at least?

Considering my one line valve is defective, and your comments, it’s gotten me thinking about good routing. I see on summit reaching I can get bendable aluminum lines. It would be nice to run them along the frame.  I’ll go play, maybe come up with a design.

I hadn’t even noticed that, you can rotate quarter turns!  Doesn’t help me unfortunately with the compressor way up over the engine.  Bummer.

Had a good long look at it. Two hoses are too long, thankfully one which needs the fitting replaced.  If I shorten those two up, that helps a lot.  The suction hose is bad angle of the compressor to allow access to the high pressure fitting.  So I can rebuild the high pressure side, put the service port up by the firewall and use a 45 degree at the compressor to get those houses nicely moved around.

I also noticed pressure on the heater hose, can get a long nozzle and take the pressure off the hose.

Will double and triple check before ordering parts.

In my quest to find a hose, I was introduced to a guy who does house calls for car a/c. He’s a fellow car guy with a lot of interesting toys.

He taught me how to run lines in parallel and line them up nicely with two zip ties.

The truck runs cold air!!  I just need to reattach the lines in the cab. I wonder if the glove box hits them and knocks them off. I thought I had them zip tied.  Need to redo the heater hoses too.

Anyways, big task complete.

I bought an assortment of beadlock fittings, hoses and the crimping tool. Nothing beats being able to make your own hoses the way you want them.
