1979 k10 tailgate

Hello Everyone, hope all is well !
I ordered a tailgate for my 79 k10 shortbed ( 76-80 2 nd design ) . when i received it i realized it was different from one i had on truck . So ordered 73-76 1st design - which matched one i took off truck . At first i thought maybe my truck wasnt a 79 after all .. but i have square door ( pass side gas tank - which i believe came in 78-79.

i want to order new side panels & want to order right ones . do i have a 79.. could it be 76 .. & would it matter anyway if side panels for 76 & 79 would be same anyway ? thank you .

Look at VIN #, it should tell you what year your truck is. 

I have a book that gives me the interchanges for makes and models 67-78.  I can try and look it up if it is within these years and you can tell me what you are looking for. 

Others, more knowledgeable may be able to help you faster.

Square gas tank door is correct but it sounds like you have the wrong gate hardware if the earlier design is what fits. Post pics
